Museum supporters will soon be able to virtually locate and view their commemorative bricks, trees and outdoor benches on the Museum campus thanks to an upgrade to the Foundation’s locator app.
The app is being developed by Esri, an international supplier of geographic information system (GIS) software, web GIS and geodatabase management applications. The company first offered their support to the Foundation by creating the original version of the app, which showed brick locations along the Museum’s Path of Remembrance and the bricks’ inscriptions.
The updated version of the app has greatly expanded to include the thousands of additional commemorative bricks lining the newly opened Warriors’ Plaza, as well as the campus’s commemorative benches and trees. The app has also been enhanced with the support of the U.S. Army Geospatial Center. Users will now be able to see actual high-resolution images of their brick or plaque, rather than graphical representations.
The app will be located on the Foundation’s website. To search, users will simply enter the name that appears on the commemorative item. The app will then visually identify its location on the Museum Campus and the inscription.
“The Foundation has teamed with Esri to upgrade our locator app, so that supporters can view their personal tribute from anywhere in the world,” said Mike Fisher, Vice President of Development. “The locator app is also an investment in the visitor experience. With nearly 15,000 bricks currently in place and more being ordered every day, we wanted to ensure our supporters could quickly and easily find the ones that bear their names.”
