Dear Members:
“Army History is American History” has long been a rallying cry for The Army Historical Foundation. The slogan reminds us that every generation of the U.S. Army has made an indelible mark on the nation. The American soldier has profoundly shaped the course of the country, and at times, the world.
There is no greater example of these intertwined histories than the fact that the U.S. Army was established a year before the birth of our great nation. Without question, the American soldier gave our founders the courage to declare independence and the fortitude to win that freedom at all costs. This year, the nation will celebrate the Army’s birth and how the American soldier has upheld the motto “This We’ll Defend” for 250 years. The Foundation will host programs throughout the year commemorating this milestone, and the Museum will open a special exhibit on the Revolutionary War with rarely seen artifacts of the Army’s fight for the nation.

The Army Historical Foundation will also advance our mission in this historic year by converting On Point to a digital format. Over nearly two generations, this journal has risen to become one of the premier publications exploring the annals of Army history. I count myself among those who enjoy reading physical copies of publications, and we will continue to publish special editions going forward. However, I am also excited about the doors that this conversion will open for giving you enriched content in a format you can read anywhere, at any time. Many of our readers have been calling for a digital version, and we are proud to deliver.
Your generosity has made it possible for the Foundation to bring these types of innovations to our preservation and presentation of the Army’s history and heritage. We hope we can continue counting on your support as we help lead the nation in marking the Army’s first 250 years.
Sincerely,
Brigadier General Burt Thompson, USA-Ret.
President, The Army Historical Foundation
