The Soldiers’ Stories Video Gallery presents personal recollections of ordinary men and women who have done extraordinary things for their fellow Soldiers, their Army, and the nation. The National Museum of the United States Army will ensure their stories are never forgotten.

BG Leo Brooks

Following a two-year detail as an U.S. Army infantry platoon leader, BG Brooks spent the remainder of his 30-year career in the military with the Quartermaster Corps. He rose through the ranks and emerged as one of the Army’s premier logistics-oriented senior commanders. BG Brooks and his sons are one of a very few American families to have all reached the rank of general and the first African American family to hold this honor.

SFC Joseph Bowser

No longer in uniform, former NCO Joe Bowser, continues his work on behalf of fellow Soldiers as the Department of the Army’s Advisor on Wounded Warrior Issues.

SPC Arnold Hubick

SPC Arnold Hubick of Chicago, Illinois recounts the threats countered by those who served during the Cold War, and why he goes to such great lengths to ensure Soldiers are represented in the Registry of the American Soldier.

SGT William Novelli

SGT William Novelli from Rosemont, Illinois landed in Normandy D-Day+20. He recalls a story of being injured and receiving a Purple Heart medal almost 50 years later.

SGT Lorenzo Ortega

SGT Lorenzo Ortega of Whittier, California recalls his time as a young Soldier with the 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War.

SGT Joan De Munbrun

Army SGT Joan De Munbrun vividly recalls her service as one of the first female volunteers in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps during World War II. SGT De Munbrun passed away on November 2, 2014 at 101 years old. De Munbrun helped to found the Charles W. Turner American Legion Post 867 and was an indefatigable grassroots volunteer for the National Museum of the United States Army. She is deeply missed.
